Meet our counselors
Ami Shelton

Hi! My name is Ami Shelton, and I am looking forward to meeting you! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (License #: 99193) under the supervision of Dr. Nolan Jones, LPC-S (License #: 73178). I am a master’s level clinician with a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Nelson University (previously Southwestern Assemblies of God University) and an undergraduate degree in pre-professional counseling, also from Nelson University.
I create a calming, safe, and empowering environment that allows you the space to ask the hard questions, sit with the uncomfortable feelings, and challenge negative beliefs in a healing and compassionate therapeutic relationship. I believe you, as the client, are the true expert of your life and story and I come alongside you to help uncover blind spots and address unhealthy patterns of behavior. I utilize a person-centered approach while integrating techniques like:
- Trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Learn More)
- Attachment theory (Learn More)
- Mindfulness Techniques
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (Learn More)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (Learn More)
- Expressive Arts
I work with youth (12 and up) and adults struggling with:
- Anxiety
- Self-confidence
- Relational Conflict
- Depression
- Dissociation
- Family violence
- Sexual abuse
- Family members of first responders
- Family members of those struggling with addiction.
I have a special passion for thinking through the root causes of daily issues that can sometimes stem from past traumatic events. With empathetic care and a trauma-focused perspective, I seek to create a safe environment where my clients feel empowered to work through deep-rooted issues that are disrupting their day-to-day lives. Between sessions you can find me at a local coffee shop, at the park with my kids, reorganizing a room in my house, or playing sand volleyball. Think we could be a good fit? Give me a call today and let’s chat!
